Our team has the expertise to repair and maintain all types of braking systems. From leaks to system failures, we've got you covered.
Owners Brian and Ace jacked up the trailer and removed the lug nuts; the tires were taken off and placed to the side, which was the first step in replacing the electrical brakes. Brian then carefully removed the spindle retainers, castle nuts, and bearings, allowing him to remove the brake drums and gain access to the brake assemblies.
The team meticulously inspected all the parts, determining that a trip to the parts store was required to purchase four brake assemblies, two left and two right, four hub covers, two spindle keepers, and two rear bearing seals. The team at Holy Moses, being a mobile service and unable to carry every part needed on the truck for their varied work, knew it wasn't all that far away.
Brian and Ace grabbed a quick lunch at the drive-through on their way back. Then, they got back to work with Brian, placing each brake assembly in its correct location so Ace could use his broad electrical knowledge, thinking the task was simple: reconnecting the two wires at each location.
Brian followed behind, bolting each of the four brake assemblies back one at a time, replacing the two rear bearing seals as required, putting the brake hubs back on, and then packing the front and rear bearings full of grease. The castle nuts go on next, getting torqued to the proper specification, with head mechanic Brian using his years of experience to ensure the hubs spin with little to no re
The spindle retainers are put in place to keep the castle nut from coming off and the customer possibly losing a tire while going down the road. More grease goes in around the bearings and via the grease nipples, then more yet inside the hub dust covers, which is only complete when it meets Brian's detailed specifications with Ace following behind, putting the tires back on another job well done
Ace jumps at the chance to finally work on some electrical, having worked on electronics for 35 years with the customer requesting replacing the rear and side lights.
While replacing the lights, Ace finds neither work on one side of the trailer. He corrects the issue by diagnosing the uncommon wiring color configuration using his trusty multimeter to replace the missing section of wires.
With the lighting issue corrected, Ace, assisted by the son of owner Briain, replaced the trailer ramp cables with one missing and the other frayed, which looked like it could break at any second. After getting the cables fastened to the door, Ace spools up just enough cable on the left hub to attach to the axle of the door closer spring.
Ace does the same with the right hub, where it takes both team members to perform the dangerous task of adjusting the door closer spring so the heavy draw bridge style door closes with ease.
The two finish the job by installing a heavy-duty trailer jack due to the weight the trailer carries, ensuring it's tightly bolted through the frame near the yoke. The total work completed by the members of Holy Moses was spread over several days, meeting the customer for a few hours each time at his multiple work locations, being mindful not to hinder the work he needed to complete.
